Pusta Treasure Chest - The benefit of livestock
- 4071 Hortobagy, 9 Petőfi Square
The new Pusztai Kincsestár - A Jószág Haszna (The Treasures of the Puszta - The Usefulness of Livestock) exhibition is housed at the Visitor Center of Hortobágy National Park. This detailed display shows us how many materials can be produced through animal husbandry, and what wonderful, practical tools, decorations, and foodstuffs an expert can create from them. Various types of wool, milk, animal hides, meat, manure, and animal draft power were all indispensable raw materials and resources for everyday farmers, artisans, and citizens alike. The exhibition is enhanced by original items, handcrafted tools, and numerous descriptions that help transport visitors back in time.
The exhibition gallery showcases the traditional clothing of the shepherds from Hortobágy and the bourgeois citizens of the market towns. In its spacious inner "courtyard," visitors can take part in handicrafts and playhouse activities. In the "sealed room" of the treasury, there is a thrilling and realistic VR experience of a cart ride. By participating in this experience, visitors can imagine themselves as some of the original characters from Hortobágy, such as the infamous highwayman, Sós Pista, who roamed the plains.
