The Meggyes Inn was built at the base of the hill of the same name, which marks the border between Tiszafüred and Kócs, in the last decades of the 17th century. The current building was constructed between 1760 and 1770 by the city council of Tiszafüred after the previous one burned down. In 1902, it was purchased for two thousand crowns by János Czinege, a herdsman leader, the father of the later famous cattle herdsman "Count Czinege."

Originally established along the Salt Road, the inn is now located further from the main road due to the new route established in the early 20th century. The exhibition in this steppe inn displays the traditional room furnished with period furniture and items, a smoky kitchen, a drinking area, and the inn’s room.

The Meggyes Inn was a nighttime meeting place for the gendarme patrols from Füred, Ohat, and Egyek, and it is also linked to tales of outlaws. In 1952, its operating license was revoked, and soon after, it became a warehouse for the Hortobágy State Farm. After the establishment of the Hortobágy National Park Directorate, one of its main tasks was the preservation of the Meggyes Inn: in 1975, it was renovated and turned into a museum. The design and interior of the three rooms of the inn museum evoke the atmosphere and life of the Meggyes Inn at the turn of the century.

The inn can be reached by turning off the main road at the 60 km mark on Route 33, and then proceeding on foot or by bike along a dirt road.
