HNP Visitor Centre

- 4071 Hortobagy, 9 Petőfi Square
The Hortobágy National Park Visitor Center, located in the heart of Hortobágy, has been refreshed and renewed. In front of the building, a new community space has been created with benches and a shaded pergola, featuring as its centerpiece the crane sculpture unveiled nearly a year ago. The newly opened and long-awaited Hortobágy Cafe welcomes guests with an atmosphere befitting a World Heritage Center. With the "Délibáb" playground adjacent to its terrace, it is likely to become a favorite spot for families. The Visitor Center’s gift shop continues to offer high-quality products marked with the Hortobágy National Park Product trademark, among other items.
The exhibitions at the Visitor Center have also been expanded.
The exhibition "The Nature of Hortobágy," located in the first section of the building across two levels, provides an interactive introduction to the rich natural diversity of Hortobágy. It emphasizes the importance of preserving biodiversity, highlights the area's natural values, sparks visitors' interest, and prepares them for the nature trail tours available within the national park.
In the other wing of the building is the exhibition titled "Treasure of the Plains – The Utility of Livestock," which illustrates to visitors how the skilled and sustainable use of the plains by farmers can still yield countless treasures from its natural environment and grazing livestock today.
The gallery showcases the traditional attire of Hortobágy herdsmen and the civic citizens of the region's market towns. In the "sealed room" of the treasure exhibition, visitors can experience the adventurous and lifelike VR experience of a wagon ride. During this bumpy journey, they can imagine themselves as one of Hortobágy's legendary figures, such as the famous outlaw Sós Pista.
The exhibitions can be visited with tickets available at both the Tourinform Hortobágy office and the Visitor Center's ticket office. Combination tickets are also available, covering both the Shepherd Museum and the Visitor Center exhibitions.
