Events

The National Herdsman Competition and Shepherd Meeting is being held for the 30th time this year at the Pusztai Animal Park in Hortobágy.

The main competitive events are drawn from the everyday work of shepherds:

- Cattle catching

- Water drawing

- Lasso throwing

- Skillful use of the shepherd's staff and the bullwhip

The indispensable closing chord of the event every year is the communal whip-cracking, involving both participants and the audience.

In addition to the programs, visitors can immerse themselves in the bustle of the folk art fair at the Pusztai Animal Park (located 1.5 km from the Nine-Hole Bridge). Guests can taste traditional shepherd dishes and get a closer look at the world of characteristic Great Plain livestock farming, as well as ancient Hungarian animal breeds.
